I designed some badges for the lovely Steyning Primary School. They are gathering designs from illustrators for their #badgesforbooks project. Selling the badges in their school library not only introduces kids to new illustrators, but helps them to raise money for new books! What a great idea. @SPS_lovetoread (I think that’s twitter not instagram)

Happy World Book Day! When my daughter was small reading together was often the highlight of our day. It's been a while since I was able to cuddle up with a tiny person and a book, but it's something I miss. The people from world book day say that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator for success in life, more than family circumstances, educational background, or income. But it’s in decline. Its 20 years ago that this photo was taken, when we still lived in a bus. I was 4 years away from starting university, and a few more still from writing my first picture book. Before I started reading picture books with my daughter making picture books hadn't even occurred to me as a possibility. A lot has changed for me and my family over that time, and we mostly have our love of books to thank. How about you? Join in the #ShareAStory campaign by posting a picture of you sharing a book with your family, and tag it #ShareAStory#worldbookday

Happy February! OK- apologies, because I am aware that February is nearly over, but I have just realised I've not been posting much. There is a reason. I've been doing lots of TOP SECRET stuff, that I can't share (yet) So I thought I'd put a couple of old bits up instead. This is from an old book #therabbitproblem I LOVED making this book, although it was a bit of a brain twister for me because it involved a lot of maths, but the story was actually more about the rabbits. This page included a knitting pattern, which was not exactly do-able My mum knitted the little jacket. #therabbitproblem#rabbitsofintagram#fibonacci#thefibonaccisequence#february

Have you ever been to The Story Museum in Oxford? I have, and it was brilliant, but at the moment they are in the process of raising funds to make it SPECTACULARLY brilliant. From 2020 their transformation will include 10 amazing new spaces to explore and enjoy, including a Whispering Wood, a Treasure Chamber and an Enchanted Library… It will also feature THE CAVE (hence the picture from my collaboration with Julia Donaldson) which will be a multi-sensory space especially important for developing work with children with cognitive and physical disabilities. If you want to find out how to get involved, or even to donate click on one of these http://storymuseum.org.uk/storiesquest https://www.facebook.com/TheStoryMuseum @TheStoryMuseum#thestorymuseum

I nearly didn’t recognise this when I went to pottery yesterday because it’s not covered in creatures! I bought a brush on glaze (oil skin) and love it. It really is iridescent. I was in love until I picked it up and realised it weighed a ton. The base is way too thick #beautifulglaze#badpotter#badatthrowing
