Heat treatment in progress at the Woodford Academy, the first project in Australia to use high temperatures to eradicate pests from collections and buildings. Such an informative symposium Raising the Heat on Pests, organised by the National Trust at the fascinating Woodford Academy, the oldest complex of buildings in the Blue Mountains. #woodfordacademy#nationaltrustnsw#bluemountainsnsw#heritageconservation#pests

Braddon Snape is showing his powerful inflated steel sculptures and video footage of their production, in the rigorous interior of The Lockup, a former police station in Newcastle’s CBD. A powerful show suggestive of life in custody, but autonomous nevertheless. #braddonsnape#braddonsnapesculpture#thelockupartspace

Norman Lindsay established this family home and a series of other studio spaces, in this spacious property - filled with art work, ship models, the publications he produced such as The Magic Pudding, the classic children’s book. Something for everyone and an excellent cafe, parking. #normanlindsay#normanlindsaygalleryandmuseum#normanlindsayshouse#nationaltrustnsw#bluemountainsnsw

Norman Lindsay cast the columns for these powerful tank stands outside the painting studio. Tank stands once held the roof water as the water supply along with subterranean reservoirs. Norman Lindsay’s tank stands are the most remarkable I have encountered. #normanlindsay#normanlindsaygalleryandmuseum#normanlindsaygardens#nationaltrustnsw#heritage#bluemountainsaustralia

The artist Norman Lindsay was active landscaping his garden. He personally cast concrete to produce sculptures, columns and garden containers. This beautiful wisteria walk is a great example, beside the house and offering a green outlook from the interior. #normanlindsay#normanlindsaygalleryandmuseum#normanlindsaygardens#wisteria#bluemountainsnsw#heritage#nationaltrustnsw

The Ideal Home Exhibition is showing across two venues: Penrith / Until 24 March 2019 and The Ideal Home - Art and Design at the Powerhouse Museum - 19 May 2019Notably, contemporary artists have also been included to critique notions of home with newly commissioned art works and installations, making for a compelling and contemporary juxtaposition. The Ideal Home exhibition at the Penrith Regional Gallery held treasures I knew more from publications of the MAAS - Powerhouse Museum, such as this 1930’s bush pantry, maker unknown and most likely from Queensland. This was actually my first visit to this dynamic art gallery which began as the home of the noted Australian artists Gerald and Margo Lewers. #penrithregionalgalleryandlewersbequest#powerhousemuseumsydney#theidealhomeexhibition#australiandesignhistory

Norman Lindsay Gallery & Museum at Faulconbridge in the Blue Mountains, a National Trust NSW property. Norman Lindsay the prolific artist, b/w illustrator, printmaker, writer (The Magic Pudding)sculptor, model ship maker and landscaper, provides a remarkable destination across age groups and interests. An artist’s home and studio is always fascinating! The tour guide was so impressive too. As it turned out it was across the road from our lovely accommodation in The Loft at Rose Lindsay Cottage. #normanlindsaygalleryandmuseum#normanlindsaygardens#normanlindsaystudio#normanlindsayshipmodels#themagicpudding#roselindsaycottage#nationaltrustnsw

At the Woodford Academy, a c. 1830’s National Trust (NSW)property in the Blue Mountains. A compelling symposium day “Turning Up the Heat on Pests” directed towards the conservation arena of pest management, via the newest approaches and industry leaders. Woodford Academy is the first project in the country to employ heat treatments to manage infestations in collections and buildings, a more sustainable approach than earlier toxic solutions. Such an impressive group of passionate professionals! Then there was the property itself, the earliest surviving building complex in the Blue Mountains. I loved that the building and paving showed its age. It has lived. #nationaltrustnsw#woodfordacademynsw#conservationofculturalheritage#bluemountainsnsw

In the archives, 2003, Artist in Residence at Camden Head Pilot Station, NSW, working on a Draft Landscape Plan with local Landscape Architect Rupert Milne Home. Working in the boat house studio, I was so conscious of the earlier life of that space and its missing gear. I was drawn to the 24 hour Convenience Store up the road with its enticing caches of second hand tools, which prompted a series of portraits of tools, fancying a future exhibition in the shed in the spaces offered by the unlined, framing. That would, I felt, honour the masculine realm of the boat house. Unfinished business... was it 27 or 47 spaces in the walling. #diannebeeversartist#artistinresidence#camdenheadpilotstation#portraitsoftools

I was prompted to take this shot by my delight in the density of architectural detail to be experienced in Melbourne. While in this image, these surfaces may be hard, they yield a richness of surface and materials, and narratives. The William Barak building has at its carpark level, a collection of porthole lenses you might correctly read as Braille, an element also employed in ARM Architecture’s wonderful National Museum of Australia in Canberra. In Melbourne, the William Barak Podium carpark, below the portrait levels, bears a grid of portholes, expressing in Braille “Wurundgeri I am who I am. ARM Architecture is noted for projects which interpret Australia’s, and here, Melbourne’s, site specific, social history, multiple storylines and cultures. #williambarak#williambarakbuilding#williambarakface#armarchitecture

In the forecourt of RMIT University’s Design Hub overlooked by remarkable architecture acknowledging the First People of this land. The William Barak building by ARM - Ashton Raggatt McDougall for Grocon, incorporates the portrait of William Barak , leader, artist and advocate of the Wurundgeri, Kulin nation. Extending over the full height of the building’s southern facade, the 85 metre portrait is created by shadows of the negative spaces via the balconies. Completed in 2015, the building was not without necessary controversy, which maintains a live discussion of Victoria’s colonial history. The architects did however, work in consultation with Wurundgeri elders. #williambarak#williambarakbuilding#williambarakface#williambarakapartments
