Hakkoda Ropeway tram covered in snow. I didn't take many photos because it dumped snow both days skiing and actually closed early one day due to high winds. We used orange poles marking the top of the run to help navigate and skied them like a flat and slow slalom course. I sent Andy first to watch and see if he dropped any wind lips (he did). #japow#doesntstopsnowing#aomori#tohoku#hakkoda#japanbackcountry

Day 3: found some stashes at the end of the day and skied through the trees most of the morning. In Japan, you don't have to work hard for face shots. They seem to just happen. 📷 @cramptonism#faceshots#japow#appi#appikogen#skiphotography#iwate#visitjapan#thatswhatshesaid

Day 2, we learned the meaning of japow. Started the day with a conservative 32 cm and more fell, totaling 60 cm in 24-ish hours. The upper mountain was closed due to high winds but we had skins and traveled for fresh turns. Maybe there is such a thing as too much snow. Day 1 of skiing in Japan. We were thankful for hardshells and ski-in/ski-out accommodations to dry off at lunch. It snowed at the top and was raining at the bottom. A true welcome for PNW skiers. The conditions were slushy but a ski day is still a ski day! And onsite onsen wasn't bad either. #notjapow#skiphotography#skication#tipsyelf#treeskiing#getokogen

Did you know that Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan have beautiful, high altitude mountains? My first trip skiing in Asia was to backcountry ski from yurts in Kyrgyzstan and we skied and toured around a resort in Kazakhstan. The people were extremely friendly and the food yummy. Can't wait to return and ski some more. #kyrgyzstan#travelkyrgyzstan#kazakhstan#traveltoski#skication#travelstoke#earnyourturns

Next week, I return to Japan. A very different trip than my first one to Tokyo on a quick weekend to climb Mount Fuji in July. I return in the winter to explore the japow goodness and escape the city to dive into the culture of the Iwate prefecture. Pretty stoked to share pictures and stories on my travels. Also, who else likes waking up early to stroll the normally crowded streets when they travel? #travelstoke#japan#asia#Tokyo#bbctravel#expediapic

Topping out on a lift with views like these never get old. Spring skiing in January! I want more pow but can't complain when the sun's out! In one week, I will be heading to Japan in search for the famous japow! Anyone been before? Hiked to the top of the Flute at @whistlerblackcomb this past weekend for the first time. Always trying to ski new lines every visit. @tobias.cortese tried to get the summit sign reflected in my goggles but I might just look like an awkward Jerry. #shejumps#iamsj#explorebc#skicanada#winterisbest#protectourwinters#liveskirepeat#epicbynature#onlyinwhistler#optoutside

In Whistler for the long weekend and was walking out of the bar when my friend mentioned the "cloud" covering the bottom sliver of the moon. Then I remembered seeing news about the lunar eclipse. I dismissed the news because this time of year we, in the PNW, rarely have clear skies. But we did and I made friends go in between inside and outside for the next couple of hours. I didn't have my DSLR with me until I return to @rainythevan to go to bed for the night. I didn't have my big lens with me and my camera battery died when I was taking multiple options. Glad I did have the nifty 50 with me and got a far distant image of the Super Blood Wolf Moon lunar eclipse. 🌒 #superbloodwolfmoon#lunareclipse#whistler#nightphotography#pnwonderland#gaiagps

Decided to drive past Whistler today and headed to the backcountry for the first time (in the Pemberton area). Thought it would be a light day tour since we didn't leave the parking lot until 11:30 and didn't have long daylight hours to work with. 2400 feet election gain and over 7 miles later... I am skiing inbounds tomorrow to switch things up, but man, what a great day to celebrate @kylezinter's birthday. #explorebc#skicanada#winterisbest#protectourwinters#earnyourturns#shejumps#iamsj#pnwonderland#thenwadventure#pnw#cascadiaexplored#thatpnwlife#pnwoutdoorwomen#herpnwlife#gaiagps

Last weekend, I took my AIARE 1 class to help plan, prepare, and travel in avalanche terrain. The @washingtonalpineclub organized a local guide company to do the instruction and we spent three days learning. Here are some pictures on how much fun we had--from rescue scenarios, digging snow pits, measuring slope angles, touring, evaluating snow layers, building snow people, and modeling #outdoorresearch gear. ❄️ Please, if you plan on hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, or even snowmobiling, consider taking a course to learn how to read forecasts like @nwacus ❄️ Thanks @kafadventures for providing us with the education and tools. ❄️ #aiare#passlife#wacway#earnyourturns

Flying into the weekend! The sun is out but all I am hoping for is colder weather and new snow. Sometimes, it's nice to not have plans and chase the weather. Check out my new blog post on weather forecasting tips and tools I use to plan for my weekend adventures. From skiing in Kyrgyzstan to summiting my last Washington active volcano, 2018 was another one to remember. Thanks to all the many adventure partners that joined me in 2018. Let's continue our exploring in 2019 because life experiences are better when shared! Moving into 2019, I am focusing on self compassion instead of self criticism. I'm excited to see where life continues to take me. #2019resolutions#bestnine2018#sheadventures#mountainpretty

It's amazing that I live 30 miles from this mountainous winter wonderland! Today was a day for exploring in the backcountry. Though yesterday's rain crust proved to be challenging at times. But the new snow on top wasn't bad. The breakable crust on the other hand... Reminded me that it is ok to look like a hot mess down the mountain. #passlife#earnyourturns#pnwonderland#washingtontrails#nwac#gaiagps

This season's goal: ski faster and try to improve my skills and technique. It has taken me seasons learning not to brake check and just go for it. Finally it is starting to click! Here's to another season of trying harder. P.S. If you know me, I am the one that skis around kickers. This past weekend, I decided to go for it! I landed it too. #iamsj#shejumps#lineskis#ikonpass#adventurerunsdeep#sheskis#sheadventures
