I wasn’t ready for 2018 to end. Last year might’ve been our best year yet. Our home was consistently occupied with friends and family that filled it with laughter; we traveled more than we ever have before and explored places we’ve dreamt of for years (🦈🧙🏼‍♀️🐢🐋🐉🧜🏼‍♀️); we made some big strides with our various businesses and we learned some pretty large lessons too! 2018 was good to us, and I was surprisingly sad to see it go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2019 approached less like the Hogwarts Express and more like a Bullet Train. Our calendar is already filling up with ocean safaris, mermaid photoshoots, social media projects, and travel. Feels like I’m riding a horse with no saddle or reigns but 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m holding on tight! Ready for a new adventure with my partner/husband/best friend by my side @_jimward_ | photo by @elanaloo@aaronhaynes (no metaphorical horses were harmed in the making of this caption)

Walking in a winter waterland ❄️😜 One of the things I love most about our winter season is you can often hear the distant sound of North Pacific Humpback Whales singing, even when you’re snorkeling in the shoreline. Their songs travel miles through the water column and are one of my absolute favorite melodies. I’ve loved traveling all over the world this year but it’s good to be home in my favorite season for the final 4 days of 2018 💙 What a wild year! Photo by @_jimward_@seethroughsea

We don’t have the “Classic Hallmark Christmas” in Hawai’i. Our holiday season is marked with the appearance of Humpback Whales; our “12 days of Christmas” consist of coconuts & myna birds; our quaint Kona town is adorned with glittering “Mele Kalikimaka” signs and Santa is often dressed in an aloha shirt & sometimes a hula skirt. On lucky occasions, we’ll have a “White Christmas” on Mauna Kea ⬆️🌴❄️ It’s not your typical holiday scene but it’s the one I’ve known and loved for most of my life. . No matter where you are in the world or what holiday you celebrate, I hope you’re enjoying these final few days of 2018 and wish you the very best in the New Year! Sending love from my ohana to yours ♥️

There’s something so simplistically peaceful about a school of fish in clear blue water. I max out my mammalian dive reflex to stay in spaces like this as long as I can; It’s my preferred sanctuary 🐟🧘🏽‍♀️🐟 Thanks for the fishy pic @_jimward_@seethroughsea and for the unreal adventure @thebucketlistfamily@sailtigerblue#seethroughsea

Dear @_jimward_@grantmellon@garrettgee@jessgee@brookslaich@juleshough@iflyheli@nina , we may never become synchronized swimmers... but we sure did pull off scuba-diving-freedivers-who-shift-from-acrobatic-pirates-to-water-weaving-mermaids pretty darn well, if I do say so myself! If you haven’t watched @thebucketlistfamily vlog of our trip to #RajaAmpat with @sailtigerblue, please check it out (link in bio)! 💙 P.S. I can’t wait for our next reunion!

With the rapid disappearance of Giant Clams on Earth, I never really thought I’d encounter one in my lifetime; especially not one that was larger than my torso 😦 Indonesian diving continues to inspire and astound me 😍 Thanks for the quick pic @_jimward_@seethroughsea | suit by @kokohbikini

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to know if you can be with joy; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments. | Words by Oriah Mountain Dreamer | Photo by @_jimward_

What you see in this photo: Me, floating at the end of a pier, marveling at the fact that we’re back in Indonesian waters not even 2 months after our initial venture to this part of the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What you don’t see in this photo: @_jimward_ is underwater, photographing @juleshough and @brookslaich as they swim through a shimmering bait ball just in front of me; @garrettgee is standing on the dock behind me, sneakily snapping this photo; @nina is in the shoreline to my right, joyously watching reef sharks zipping past her; @iflyheli is getting split-level photos of @jessgee on the left side of the pier; @grantmellon is on the beach smiling and interacting with the locals showcasing their hand carved trinkets. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This photo represents so much more than a simple morning swimming in the blue to me. It’s a little souvenir of a wild week-long ride with some of the most genuinely good hearted people I’ve ever met. @sailtigerblue@seethroughsea@thebucketlistfamily#seethroughsea#westpapua#wakawakaeheh

We used to have a running joke with a few of our friends, they’d say, “If you want to see a whaleshark, make sure Ali’s not on board!” It was in jest but it felt true; 13 years working on the ocean between Waianae and Kona and it seemed I always just missed the special moments my peers shared with these gentle giants. After a while, people started suggesting that I go somewhere where whaleshark tourism nearly guarantees sightings but I was adamant that I wanted my first encounter with the world’s largest fish to be in home waters. Sighting whalesharks in Hawai’i is mostly about luck and I always told myself that, whenever I saw my first whaleshark, it’d be a sign from life that I was in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing. So, thanks life. I got the message and I loved this moment. Brimming with pure joy ✨🐋🦈 @seethroughsea@_jimward_#seethroughsea#whaleshark

Our time in Indonesia came and went so quickly it’s wild to believe it even happened at all. We landed safely in Kona and snuggled our pups for a full 24hrs, then opened our hard drives and marveled at what we had just experienced. The the creatures, the corals, the culture - I feel like we only just got a peek at all that Indonesia has to offer. We’re set on returning soon and spending a little more time in this area of the world. It’s a long journey from home, but it’s 100% worth it. @kbriwashdc@indtravel@seethroughsea Photo by @_jimward_#mavicpro#seethroughsea#wonderfulindonesia

It doesn’t appear I’ll be checking Indonesia off my list. Quite to opposite actually, my bucket list has grown exponentially while we’ve been here; it’s now marked with asterisks that annotate the different places we want to revisit and the many recommendations we’ve received (thank you to everyone that’s written us about places to visit & things to see!). This trip is coming to a close all too quickly but I know for sure that we’ll be back! @seethroughsea@kbriwashdc@indtravel#wonderfulindonesia#seethroughsea

It was our third and final dive of the day and the sun had fallen low in the sky, its golden hue reminiscent of the resplendent adornments on the Balinese temples we explored before our departure to Labuan Bajo. We leapt into the water and descended beyond our bubbles down to a reef that teamed with Green Sea Turtles. They perched on corals and nestled in the sand; they transitioned through the water column to appease their lungs and then settled back below for a few hours of rest. Each turtle’s shell was uniquely ornate and admirably clean (Hawai’i Honu, take notes!) and they didn’t appear perturbed by our presence at all. They sat and watched us as we sat and watched them. I could’ve stayed for hours but, as the sun’s light dwindled, so did the air in our tanks. We were sad to leave the water but grateful to have experienced such a pristine location. @seethroughsea#seethroughsea@kbriwashdc@indtravel#wonderfulindonesia
