πŸŽ₯ video by @dinal_samarasinghe This my friends is a Sri-Lankan sloth bear 🐻 and this little boy 🀣 weighs about 120 kg. This was the only animal I feared when walking through the jungles of Yala National Park while in Sri-Lanka in 2015. The tracker I worked with named Ranga from @kulu_safaris would say that this was the only animal he didn’t want to meet on foot 🦢 because of their temperament. They will stand up to tigers if they have to (although tigers can and will eat them). But these bears eat ants, termites and a boatload of fruit. @dinal_samarasinghe got this funny video of one trying to pry open his camera trap box! Photos πŸ“Έ by @alexbraczkowski Female leopards have got to hide their cubs well to protect them from hyenas, lions and other leopards! This little cub was hidden in a small grass patch deep in a small tributary of the Timbavati river, South Africa. I could get a few shots before they slinked off and disappeared. Females have to be vigilant as nearly 50% of all leopard cub mortality in the first year of life is because of other leopards, males specifically. They do this to propagate their own genes. By killing the cubs of a female they can mate with her in about a month. It’s a sad reality but a hallmark of big cat society and evolution. This is survival of the fittest πŸ† follow @alexbraczkowski for more shots and facts about big cats 🦁🌍 . . . . . #leopardsofinstagram#cub#kittycat#kitty#cutecats#smallcat#bigcat#africanwildlife#natgeo#natgeowild#naturephotography#photographylovers

Photo πŸ“Έ by @alexbraczkowski Balancing in the branches of a large Marula tree, a leopardess called Shikavi looks for a way down. Leopards are some of the most proficient tree-climbers in the cat kingdom, the only two which might beat them are the small margay from central and South America, and the clouded leopard from parts of Asia...those two can literally walk vertically down a tree! Nonetheless I have literally seen leopards run vertically up a tree (don’t know if you call that climbing πŸ˜‚πŸ”₯). The climbing goes hand in hand with their ability to drag carcasses that are sometimes close to their own size (eg. a female impala) into the trees 🌳 this behaviour is known as caching and it helps keep kills away from lions, hyenas and wild dogs πŸ• πŸ† follow @alexbraczkowski for more shots and facts about big cats! . . . . . #climbing#leopard#leopardess#cats_of_world#cats_of_instworld#bigcat#sabisands#dulini#leopards#wildlifelovers#natgeowild#natgeo#mother#bigcats#leopards#southafrica#savanna

Video πŸŽ₯ by @alexbraczkowski This is Bub 🦏 a three year old female black rhinoceros which was moved from South Africa to @zakouma_national_park thanks to an incredible partnership between @sanparks@africanparksnetwork and @zakouma_national_park 🌟 to increase the range of the species and reintroduce them back to Chad πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡© after a 40 year absence. Bub is enjoying some relief from a very hot day so she’s digging up some mud and water in her temporary holding boma before release. Throwback to afternoons in Yala National Parks Gem river where I would film two dozen toque macaques playing and diving in the river. It was the first time I tried my hand at operating a video camera and it sure was a lot of fun πŸ’ itching to get back to Sri-Lanka to film some leopards and these macaques. Look at the little fringes of hair that these monkeys have, the word toque comes from French and refers to the little fringe or hat-like accumulation of hair these guys have got on their head. Head over to @kulu_safaris if you want to plan the ultimate safari to see these cool macaques for yourself πŸ”₯πŸ™ . . . . . #monkey#monkeyingaround#macaque#srilanka#throwback#islandlife#river#yala Song: Bob Marley - Jump Nyabingi

Repost πŸŽ₯ by @rodgerbowren Look πŸ‘€ at how these two brothers beat each other up over the mating rights to a lioness (you can see her run into the frame about 30 seconds in, and the look on her face is like screw that πŸ˜‚). Rodger captured this incredible scene on the @tswalu Kalahari Reserve in South Africa’s cape, a place known for its beautiful black-maned lions (these two are absolute units and prime specimens of what a healthy lion should look like). Do you notice the sheer power of these males? This is why females need strength in numbers to stand even a slither of hope in protecting their cubs from males which are not their fathers. Three, four even five females can protect and give their cubs a fighting chance...small, depleted prides can’t do this. The females will literally run, and the cubs will have to gun it alone against the males assault. I’ve seen the same thing with female leopards πŸ†- kill or be killed. Crazy stuff hey! 🦁 . . . . . #fightnight#lionfight#fight#tswalu#kalahari#arid#savanna#africa

A lion cub from the Kogere pride rests on a euphorbia branch in the Kasenyi region of Uganda. I followed this pride for about 6 months and saw cubs get into some of the most seemingly uncomfortable positions in these trees. These lions continue to fascinate and surprise me every day 🦁 . . . . . #bigcat#lion#wildlife#hanging
