"It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light." ~ Aristotle. ๐Ÿ“œ Reposting an old forgotten photo, using my limited editing skills, that I took more than a year ago, at the Pont Alexandre III, at the Champs Elysees in Paris, France. ๐Ÿ“ This particular section is the Nymphs of the Neva relief, as seen from this side of the bridge, overlooking the Seine River. โ›ฒ This Beaux-Arts style bridge, inaugurated in 1900 for the Exposition Universelle, and dedicated to the Russian Tsar Alexander III (hence the name), it is regarded as one of the most beautiful, ornate, and extravagant bridge in Paris, and even in the whole world. ๐ŸŒ‰ Would you like to take a stroll down this Magnificent bridge? ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท . . . . . #paris#france#traveldiaries#ig_paris#ig_france#igersparis#igersfrance#theparisguru#parisgram#toureiffel#europe#places#photography#perspective#photooftheday#wanderlust#travel#instagood#instaparis#visitparis#parisjetaime#topparisphoto#thisisparis#igworldclub#ig_today#pariscityvision#throwbackthursday#pontalexandreiii#champselysees#trivia

"The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal." - Aristotle ๐Ÿ“œ It's Throwback Thursday, and here's a perspective picture of the Patriarchal Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mark, also known as Saint Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco). โ›ช Built with a combination of contemporary Gothic and Italo-Byzantine architecture style, it stood (and still does at some level) as a symbol of Venetian power and wealth, and often dubbed by locals as Chiesa d'Oro, or the Church of Gold, a reference to the magnificent gold mosaics and design. ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ One key feature here, that stands out, are the Four Horses of Saint Mark-Lysippos, and there are numerous stories attached to their journey. ๐ŸŽ They're believed to be made in Antiquity, and by some unverified accounts, they once adorned the Arch of Trajan (remember that in Rome?) โ›ฉ๏ธ The horses were once part of the Hippodrome of Constantinople, until 1204, when Doge Enrico Dandolo sent them back to Venice as loot in the sack of Constantinople, and installed above the basilica in 1254. ๐Ÿ”ฅ But, that's not the end, these horses were then taken to Paris by Emperor Napoleon himself in 1797, only to be returned back to Venice in 1815. ๐ŸŽ  The ones that you can see in this picture, unfortunately, are bronze replicas, and the original ones are kept at the St Markโ€™s Museum inside the basilica, since 1970. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น . . . . . #venice#italy#europe#traveldiaries#igerseurope#venezia#ig_italia#igersitaly#igworldclub#veneto#tbt#visitveneto#iamtb#places#photography#perspective#photooftheday#wanderlust#travel#instagood#instagramitalia#igersvenezia#piazzasanmarco#beautifuldestinations#ig_today#thursday#throwbackthursday#venicecityworld#travelphotography#saintmarksbasilica

"A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving." ~ Lao Tzu ๐Ÿ“œ A Throwback Thursday picture of the Piazza Repubblica, or the Republic Square, at the center of Florence, Italy. The piazza is known today as a theatre of street-artists and impromptu exhibitions in old city. ๐ŸŽ  Historically though, the Piazza della Repubblica marks the site of an Ancient Roman forum and, indeed, the exact present site of the Colonna dell'Abbondanza marks the intersection of the axes of the cardo and decumanus, the two important roads in any Ancient Roman city. ๐Ÿš๏ธ Unfortunately, in the period between between 1885 and 1895, known as the Risanamento, a decision was taken to broaden the square and resulted in destruction of buildings of great importance, like medieval towers, churches, the corporate seats of the Arti, palaces of noble families, as well as craftsmen's shops and residences, to make way for newer constructions. The present appearance of the square is the result of this Risanamento. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Is it a good decision to destroy old heritage for the needs of a prospering city? ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น . . . . . . . #Florence#florenceitaly#traveldiaries#firenze#europe#italy#places#photography#perspective#photooftheday#wanderlust#travel#instagood#instagramitalia#igersfirenze#ig_europa#igerstoscana#ig_florence#visitflorence#iamtb#ig_today#ig_tuscany#ig_italia#thursday#throwbackthursday#travellingthroughtheworld#travelphotography#architecture#trivia#piazzarepubblica
