Ceremonial Dance, Ghana 🇬🇭 Deangle masks are meant to give pleasure and comfort to the community 🎭 Their most basic function is to serve as intermediaries during initiation rites between the boys in the “bush school” camps and their mothers in the town ✨In addition, however, many are also either singers or dancing masks 👹 🎥: OverLanding West Africa . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #africandance#africanart#afrodance#africanceremony#artlover#africanartcollector#africanhistory#ghana#africanart#interiordecorators#designer#artinvestors#travel#travelafrica#africanmask#african#danmask#africa#artcollector#architecture#artgallery#art#blackart#dance#dancing#africanartist

Via @spencer_travel_photographer . Whilst doing research prior to my trip to Ethiopia I had learned about the Arbore tribe. Known for their beautiful woman I decided to visit them with one thing in mind. Photographing the women in all their splendor. Once there, I explained my intentions to a local man, through an interpreter of course. He said it wouldn’t be a problem and took me into the village. He then began to shout out something in the local dialect which I of course could not understand. When I asked him what he was doing he replied, “it’s ok, I am just saying that the beautiful girls should come out to be photographed” I have never been so embarrassed in my life. . . Every year in June, in #Ethiopia’s remote Omo Valley, the #Bodi#tribe have their new years celebration known as Kael. For 6 months certain men from the tribe sustain themselves strictly on fresh milk and cow blood. They are forbidden to have sex and leave their hut. Everybody takes care of them, the girls bringing milk every morning in clay or bamboo pots. The winner is the fattest man. His prize is fame. The fat men drink milk and blood all day long. At sunrise, they drink the first bowl of blood (1 to 2 liters). With flies swarming everywhere, the men must drink quickly before it coagulates. Some struggle to get it down and vomit. Many fear that the #Kael will end soon as foreign companies are taking the Bodi’s land and displacing the tribe into government camps - essentially destroying their culture #africa#ethiopia#ig_mood#passionpassport#instaghesboro#infinity_shotz#ig_masterpiece#fotogulumse#profile_vision#igshotz#ig_masterpiece#profile_vision#everydayevrywhere#inscountries#igphotoworld#stunning_shots#travelawesome#travel#travelphotography#travelgram#travelphotographer#igtravel#photooftheday

'The Omo Valley is a remote region of Ethiopia, bordering South Sudan and Kenya. We were among the only cars on the road during our drive into this known for the numerous tribal groups living an isolated existence. These boys were on stilts in the middle of the road, wearing elements of their traditional Bena tribal attire and westernized cotton briefs.' This man is a famous voodoo master in Djougou area, Benin. He was waiting in a brand new building the american ambassador (only her representative came at the end) who offered 40 000 euros to the community to make a 'museum' for the Taneka tribe. He always wears monkey skin clothes and smokes a huge pipe. Benin.
