We often talk about the speed of the concentric (shortening) & eccentric (lengthening) phase of the movement, however, a lot of benefit can come from the isometric phase. - - This is where you work the muscle without lengthening or shortening it. The isometric phase of a movement or an isometric exercise such as this maximally increases strength over all joint angles the exercise is performed at. - - For best results complete 1 set for as long as possible at the end of any lower day. - - Who can hold a wall sit the longest? Yes not all swaps are as good & some may even be better either way it’s better than an all or nothing approach. - - With the ones that don’t taste as good it usually comes down to 1 of 2 things. You’ve either just got so used to your current choices that after a little perseverance you’ll find they’re not that bad after all. Or it’s just another excuse because mentally you’re not really prepared to make the necessary steps to get the results & it’s an easy way to justify to yourself why you haven’t stuck to it. - - For me deciding to not eat the alternative & then complain about the food being bland & boring is just cutting my nose off to spite my face. Having things like eat lean cheese, lo dough, halo top, breyers, diet drinks, low fat options, leaner meats etc etc are definitely better than not having them at all or sticking with the current choices that have created an unhealthy #bodyimage to begin with. - - It’s a great time to be trying to lose a few. There’s never been so many great alternatives available. The food options not being as good is not an excuse for not getting results so stop using it to mask the real reason is that you’re not really prepared to make change. - - Would I rather have a papa johns than a homemade lo dough pizza hell yeah. #foodie#friday does it really matter what kind of #potato you eat for #fatloss - - Firstly yes I was one of those trainers who was always like yeah sweet potato is better. The insulin response due to the GI Index is important. Luckily I’m not arrogant enough to not continue to expand my knowledge & can admit that I was wrong. - - As you can see that there’s not much to split the two. The principles of #flexibledieting - calories in vs calories out & when #protein is set then you will see results. & yes I will continue to state this at every opportunity as what gets repeated gets remembered. - - One is slightly lower in #calories & #carbs but fairly insignificant. If you’re worrying about a few calories here or there then you have bigger problems with how your #nutrition is set out. - - In summary when it comes to potato it doesn’t really matter which one you have. This picture shows all the things I eat on a daily basis to get me around 180g of protein for roughly 1,200 calories. - - X2 heck chicken sausages 19g protein 150g lean beef mince 40g protein 160g chicken breast 50g protein X1 bagel 9g protein X1 grenade protein bar 22g protein 200g Greek yoghurt 20g protein 25g whey 17g protein - - Provides plenty of variety from differing food groups & interesting appetizing meal choices. - - Often our minds get clouded & it’s hard to see past the myths of the Fitness industry when we start to make wholesale changes. It’s just a phrase we say to convince ourselves when things aren’t quite happening - - Can only speak for myself & im sure many of you feel the same way, but 4 weeks to notice a difference on myself? Hell NO! Do we ever see the difference in ourselves, hardly ever. Maybe after real significant change yeah but let’s face it to get that kind of change in 4 weeks you’re probably following an unsustainable plan where the wheels will fall off eventually. - - 8 weeks for your friends, yeah maybe. The thing here is that they’re your friends some will tell you what you want to hear to help protect you & others will be brutal as they’re either actually being honest or they might just be jealous. - - 12 weeks for the rest of the world possibly. My own experience is after 10kg in around 16 weeks did anyone actually start commenting. - - The truth of it all is set realistic timescales, not do it for anyone other than you, stop looking for the confirmation from others & be patient. #monday#madness form, technique & ego lifting - - We talk about never sacrificing form for adding more weight & this is by far the best summary I’ve ever seen. - - There is a sweet spot where the additional weight added to an #exercise is manageable yet taxing & it’s a fine line from there to complete collapse in form. Making sure you don’t cross that line is pivotal to safe & effective muscle growth. Past that the only thing that grows is the ego - or does it 🤔 maybe in your head but anyone around you in the know will just be worried for your safety begging you to regress the load as opposed to your form. - - If you’re struggling to progress & maintain form look for other ways to place the muscle under adequate stress to grow. For example increase the reps, decrease the rest are just 2 methods. It doesn’t always have to be more load. What do you think? - - Was having a conversation with a client about this who felt strongly that it’s unfair for restaurants to be made to add the #nutrition info to their menus. They felt it was added workload, near on impossible due to how they make up their meals or how frequently the menu changes & that it’s people passing the responsibility of looking after their #health to the restaurant - - This is a debatable concept. There are pros & cons. For the most part I agree. Some restaurants who’s menus change frequently or create dishes with ingredients from one also get used in a other or the left overs get used to make something amazing will find this extremely difficult & probably would have to change the way that’s been working for them. Many chains or places that are based around a standard menu like nandos, weatherspoons, macdonalds etc are already on things like MyFitnessPal. Some places already provide at least the calorie content which is enough really. - - The point I disagree with is about passing responsibility. No! Not in any way. You have someone who wants to go out for dinner & plan that meal in so they can enjoy that dinner & do so within the realms of #flexibledieting but doesn’t have the info they need. The only thing being asked if the restaurant is provide the required info for that person to take responsibility. We’re not asking them to adjust the dish to make it fit. We’re not asking them to plan out all the meals to make them fit. Just provide the information to allow us to do what we need & actually take responsibility for ourselves. - - Continued in comments

Just like box jumps for #glutes the inclusion of some explosive work will do wonders for growing muscle - - Just like lifting sprinting requires a huge central nervous system output activating the muscle fibers to rapidly produce high levels of force. The friction produced by not turning on the treadmill will only require additional force & produce even more results - - If you’ve been lifting for a while & development has come to a standstill then the addition of a new stimulus, especially one that is unlikely to have been used in a long time if at all, will jump start new growth - - These are best programmed at the end of a lifting session where the hamstrings will be sufficiently prepared so less likely to pull a muscle. Doing 5-10 intervals of 10-20 secs with a 50-40 sec rest will produce the best results. #truth#tuesday - - Your current condition is a result of the lifestyle choices you’ve made to date. - - If you’ve decided that you’re not happy with that condition then you’re going to need to change your lifestyle. - - Too many times do people think that simply going to the gym 1 or 2 times a week without making any other change should be enough to see results - - Wrong! These people are most likely to be the ones that will do less throughout the rest of the day because the gym has made them sore or tired, therefore negatively impacting their ability to get results. - - If you really want change then you’ll have to do it even when you can’t be bothered or feel too tired. You can’t have it all your own way. That’s what got you where you are. You will have to do some things you won’t want to. It won’t all fit seamlessly into your day. If it did you probably would have it there. You’re going to have to make time for it often at the expense of something else (love island has finished after all) - - It won’t be easy. “O but look at you it’s just easy for you” the most insulting phrase ever. No it’s not easy for those getting results. They face the same challenges, wants & desires as you. #foodie#friday let’s get our scream on - - @halotopcreamery has been blowing up lately plus others have been reacting & for very good reason. - - When you compare these low cal ice creams against some of the nations favourites it’s not even a contest. With half the carbs, a quarter the fats & a third the calories the likes of halo top & @breyers are killing it. - - So who wins between Halo & Breyers? If you look at the principles of #flexibledieting#calories are top. Depending on the flavour from each side there’s not much in it. If your squabbling over the odd 20 cals you’ve got bigger issues with your energy balance that need to be addressed. Next up is protein. With these matching up again it’s becoming difficult to split them. - - Taste. Having tried variations from both they again cannot be split. Both taste awesome. With each brand having some of the same & some differing flavours available it comes down to individual cravings. - - Texture! The main difference. Halo is soft scoop & can be devoured immediately. Breyers is tougher so you have to either leave it sitting out for a bit or heat the spoon like some kind of ice cream crack addict. - - Price. Yes they are expensive, but totally worth it. If you want quality, taste & the ability to drop a few at the same time then you have to expect to pay a premium. There’s often deals on so search them out & stock up.
