The Amazon is often referred to as "the lungs of the planet" as it produces 20 percent of the Earth's oxygen. A record number of fires have been detected this year, as far-right president Jair Bolsonaro calls data around the increased deforestation "lies." In addition to the need for ethical leadership, we also must recognize that we cannot achieve environmental and planetary sustainability without achieving personal sustainability. Burnt out people — and leaders — will keep burning up the planet. Why? Because they operate on short-termism and survival. A sustainable planet begins with sustainable lives. #SaveTheAmazon#PrayforAmazonas#amazonrainforest#amazon | regram @world
#tbt to a day guest-teaching in Los Angeles as part of the @teachforamerica program. Far too often, teachers must reach into their own pockets to meet their students' needs — that's why @Thrive is proud to partner with @donorschoose throughout August to double donations that provide much-needed resources for teachers. Go to my #LinkInBio to read more and learn how to donate!
As we are all obsessed with increasing our productivity, let’s not forget that sometimes the best productivity hack is to complete a project by dropping it! That’s how I learned to cook, ski and speak German 🙂. Anything large or small you recently “completed” by dropping it?
I was so happy to welcome @james_clear, author of one of my all-time favorite books "Atomic Habits," at our @thrive all-hands today. James has great advice about how we need to stop wasting effort doing things that don't matter ("elimination is a more useful skill than optimization"). I especially love this quote: "every step [or #Microstep 😉] we take is like a vote for the type of person we want to become." Subscribe to his newsletter to read his great new “3-2-1” series at my #LinkInBio — and if you haven't yet read #AtomicHabits," what are you waiting for?
Happy #SelfCareSunday! One aspect of self-care we often overlook is giving. When we widen our circle of concern by helping others, we gain perspective and increase our empathy. Comment with a way you will give back this week — no act of kindness is too small! Read more at my #LinkInBio!#MayaAngelou
Staying with @richiejacksongaydad and @jordan_roth in their beautiful home in the Hamptons this weekend I had the chance to read the galleys of Richie’s book “Gay Like Me” coming out in January. I loved every page. Powerful, moving and inspiring! Go to my link in bio to preorder.
Comment with three things you're grateful for today! We think of gratitude as a coda, an add-on, something that comes at the end. But in fact, gratitude is the beginning. And when we practice it, it sets off a chain reaction of positive benefits. Read more about having a gratitude attitude at my #LinkInBio!#imamalshafii
At @proctergamble's FemCare offsite complete with sequined jackets and "Femtastic" shirts where FemCare’s brilliant, fearless leader Hesham Tohamy interviewed me on stage and opened up for Thrive’s Entry Interview. Another great day meeting with HR and brand leaders (like @always_brand and @tampax) as part of Thrive’s partnership to bring Microstep habit-stacking to both P&G consumers and their global workforce!
